  3. thereby becoming electrically charged
  4. or ionized. If the ionized atom
  5. captures a free electron that possesses
  6. more energy than the lost electron,
  7. the excess energy is radiated as light.

  9. one electron; a doubly ionized atom
  10. has lost two electrons.
